Bobby Cole: The Dummy Line

Bobby Cole, Mossy Oak Biologic executive vice president, used his extensive knowledge of hunting and a lot of imagination to create a novel that delves into the fears of what could happen in the woods at night when you're one your own.

The Dummy Line starts with Jake Crosby taking his daughter Katy turkey hunting for the weekend in Alabama with the hope of getting her first bird. Jake, a turkey hunting fanatic, is your typical hunting father trying to introduce his child to the wonders of the woods while she's still willing to hang out with dear ol' dad.

Their pleasant weekend is shattered when a local punk gang decides to rob the hunting club camp where Jake and Katy are staying. Jakes stands up to them, starting an all night chase through the Noxubee River swamp near an old railroad track bed called the dummy line with the gang bent on revenge.

In the process of hunting down Jake, the gang tries to enact their revenge on everyone associated with him, and anyone who gets in their way.

The Dummy Line taps into that little fear all hunters have about being in the wild yonder all alone and miles from help. We know that the chances of anything really bad happening are remote, but the fear is always there in the background.

"Most of us that have been to a remote camp, hunting or fishing, probably have gotten a little
spooked at night," Cole said about the novel. "The Dummy Line takes those emotions and twists them around a dangerous, worstcase scenario that could easily happen to any of us. Throw in the drama of having a young child involved and you've got a powerful story that grabs you. I had a ball writing it and I know that I'll never leave my camp doors unlocked again!"
