Dead Down Wind: Unscented Wind Checker

No matter how many marketing schemes or testimonials I hear annually, I have always been rooted in disbelief for scent eliminators and scent-free products.

That is, until I came across Dead Down Wind products.

Over then next few weeks, I'm going to add a few bits about specific products produced by DDW ... this week, it's the wind checker.

I was asked to join a client at his place for some peak-rut bow hunting in central Mississippi. I was shown the property, and chose to really test the 'scent eliminator' stuff and chose an area with only a ground blind.

It was an afternoon hunt, with a swirling breeze and warmer-than-normal temperatures. I pulled out the DDW wind checker, and saw that the wind was circling around my blind. After about 5 minutes, I tested it again, and saw that the wind was pushing to the East, which was the edge of a food plot I was hunting.

I thought it was over ... the wind was all wrong, and I just put out 'baby powder' for the entire woods to smell ... but, I was wrong. After 20 minutes of fussin' and fumin', two does and a small seven-point walked out of the plot and into my woods from the East ... walking into the wind, into my scent, and into my 'baby powder.'

It was amazing! But, the cool part was — since I wasn't shooting doe or small buck — when I shot the wind checker again ... just to see if they'd smell it. They did not ... and I almost spooked the trio laughing out loud at what I had seen.

A very cool day in the deer blind ...
