Brandon man charged in antlers theft

By Justin Fritscher • January 5, 2011

A Brandon, Mississippi man was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly stealing deer antlers and sparking a police chase.

Justin Hogan, 30, has been charged with speeding, resisting arrest, reckless driving and fleeing. A charge for the stolen deer antlers is pending, Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said.

Hogan is accused of stealing deer antlers from the back of a pick-up truck parked in front of a Bradford Drive home in the Castlewoods subdivision. Hogan had approached the homeowner days prior, complimenting the eight-point rack, Pennington said.

The homeowner noticed the antlers were gone Tuesday, and he told his son, who then recognized Hogan’s truck driving down their street, with the horns on display, he said. The homeowner’s son was able to write down the license plate and notify authorities.

Brandon Police Department spotted Hogan, and a police chase ensued. At some point, he ditched his vehicle, running with the antlers in his hands. Pennington said he’s unsure of a motive.
